Jared Polis vetoed a rideshare safety bill that would have required background checks and other measures after Uber and Lyft threatened to leave the state — he said the changes could force companies to exit the market. Rep. Jenny Willford sponsored the measure after sharing her personal experience, and the Public Utilities Commission has been asked to propose alternative safety enhancements — officials said they are reviewing options to boost passenger safety.
