  • CSU, Fort Collins and Larimer County are hosting free events on Nov 1st and 2nd to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Laramie Foothills Bison Conservation Herd—events include a morning wildlife talk at Soapstone Prairie Natural Area on Nov 1st and a stage program with drumming and dancing at Old Town Square on Nov 2nd. The herd was established in 2015 using reproductive technology to produce bison with Yellowstone genetics free of brucellosis, with eight original adult females still in the group.  The Coloradoan

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On October 9, a fire destroyed 18 businesses at the Caribou Village Shopping Center in Nederland as Boulder County Sheriff's Deputy Josh Jarboe said he was the first on scene, feeling intense heat as he arrived—he then alerted nearby residents and a block party to support affected businesses is scheduled for Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  CBS Colorado

CULTURE NEWS

  • A national survey by Solitaired found that Coloradans are among the cheapest to buy Halloween candy—spending about $39 on average with spending expected to rise to $41 this year—and are the most likely to hand out full-sized candy bars at about 11%. The survey also shows that around 8% of residents serve alcoholic drinks to adult trick-or-treaters and the average door sees about 33 visitors.  The Coloradoan

  • CDOT warns that with the upcoming time change next week, wildlife collisions on local roads may increase — drivers are urged to reduce speed and remain alert for animals on the roadway.  CBS Colorado
  • Colorado is using state money to support food banks and WIC benefits while SNAP funds are paused due to a potential federal shutdown. The state approved $10 million for food banks — funds will be released on Nov 1, Nov 15 and Dec 1 if the shutdown continues — and allocated up to $7.5 million for WIC.  The Coloradoan

  • UCHealth Poudre Valley Hospital marks 100 years by sharing historic photos that show its evolution from Larimer County Hospital, which opened on Oct. 20, 1925—up to modern patient care improvements.
